Hare Krishna, friends! I Vivek, in this blog I'll talk about my experiences participating in the massive Jagannath rath yatra that takes place across India on Friday, July 1st. Since I had never been to a rath yatra before, I was likewise anticipating this one with excitement. Because I was in Vrindavan on that particular day and the rath yatra was taking place in Mathura, I took my afternoon prasadam on that occasion. However, my roommate and I had to rush to get there because we had already missed the start of the rath yatra. When we got there, I noticed that many people were pulling the rope to move the rath and that there were numerous groups performing sankirtan, some of which included mridanga players and vocalists. And the majority of focus moments involved a devotional dance. There were numerous devotees present, many of them were circling and dancing in groups. Vaishnav danced to the tune of Hare Krishna kirtan.
In order to see Jagannath Bhagwan, his sister Subhadra, and his brother Baldev, who were sitting on the rath, I first tried to move forward in front of the rath for darshan and pranam. They appeared to be really beautiful. and after that, I got enthusiastic about pulling the rope, created enough space for me to do so, and moved to another side of the rope where I could pull with ease. When I arrived and began to dance with my friends who were already involved in dance, I discovered that my clothes were wet and prayed to God for rain. Then, all of a sudden, the weather changed, clouds appeared in the sky, and it began to rain, so I put my phone in a poly bag to protect it. The Rath Yatra began at Mukund Vihar in Mathura and traveled through a number of locations, including Agrasen Circle, Dwarakadhish Temple, Holi Gate, Dampier Nagar, Dd Plaza, and Mukund Utsav. A group of three women and one man were making rangolis along the rath yatra route. These rangolis were incredible, and I was astounded to see how quickly they were being created.
And I was thinking at the time that only devoted people could serve Krishna with such fervor and ecstasy. Many individuals performed Bhagwan Jagannath's pooja along the rath yatra, and many of them served water and lemon juice to pilgrims. One follower was dancing while sitting on the roof of the rath while he avoided the wires. People were receiving the Jagannath Prasadam from numerous devotees. A lot of followers are also giving out books to people.
Everyone is contemplating Rath Yatra after reading this.
We commemorate this Rath Yatra Mahotsav for what reason?
In order to understand this, it is necessary to go back 15 days. After taking a bath, Bhagwan Jagannath fell ill and spent the next 15 days in bed. His wife, Laxmi, forbade him from seeing anyone during this time. After 15 days, Bhagwan Jagannath decided to take his sister and brother to visit their aunt (mausi). While this might be a reason to venture outside, Bhagwan really wanted to give others a chance to see him because, for the previous 15 days, no one had been able to do so. So they stepped outside on the rath on July 1. Since that day, India has celebrated the Rath Yatra Mahotsav on the same day each year throughout the country. Every year, thousands of people participated in this rath yatra in Puri. This year, the festival is attended by 25 lakh people.
According to Gaurang Prabhu, "On the day of the rath yatra, there were 25 lacks people in a single route to draw the chariots of Jagannath, Baldev, and Subhadra, therefore despite so many heroes who come and go, Jagannath remains the biggest superstar."
We arrived at our final destination of rath yatra around 6:30 pm, and we were also excited now till. Additionally, plans for prasadam for everyone were made. I eventually returned after all.
Vivek goyal...
